The Iranian team won the bronze medal by beating its rival, the United Arab Emirate (UAE), 29-23 late on Thursday. It is the first time through the history that the Iranian handballers have ranked three in Asia.
The team had earlier secured its place in the 2015 World Men's Handball Championship in Qatar for the first time after a 30-30 draw against Bahrain at a Group A match in the Khalifa Sports City's Hall in Manama late on Sunday.
Qatar won the first place and Bahrain came second in the tourney.
In its competitions in the tourney, Iran won the UAE, Uzbekistan and China, gained three draws against Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, and lost to Qatar in the semifinal match.
The 16th Asian Senior Men’s Handball Championship opened in the Bahraini capital on January 25 and wrapped up on February 6.
Spain, France, Denmark, Croatia, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Bahrain have also qualified for the 2015 world cup so far.
