The US Volleyball Federation has invited Iran’s squad to America to hold friendlies in the city of Los Angeles, writes the official website of the Iranian Volleyball Federation.
The US federation sent a letter to its Iranian counterpart on Thursday, officially inviting Iran’s team to take part in a preparatory camp as well as four friendly matches from August 7-17, 2014.
The Americans have undertaken to cover the expenses of the Iranian squad during the ten-day tour.
The Iranian volleyball team is ranked the world’s 12th top team by the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) while the United States stands in the fourth spot.
Iran managed to defeat the United States at the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup in Japan. This was the first time that Iran’s volleyball team won over the US.
Iran’s team has witnessed a considerable progress under the management of its Argentinean coach Julio Velasco and demonstrated an impressive performance in recent world competitions.
During the recent FIVB competitions, the Iranian volleyball squad defeated 3rd-ranked Italy, 9th-ranked Serbia and 10th-ranked Germany once and 7th-ranked Cuba twice.
